This closed, peer-to-peer session is designed specifically for board members of all sectors, including financial services, and focuses on the strategic, financial and governance implications of sustainability at board level.

We are extremely pleased to welcome as speakers:

  • Mr Peter Voser, Chairman of the Board, ABB

  • Mr Markus Neuhaus, Board member, Baloise Helvetia.

Isabelle Amschwand (President, SwissVR), Patrick Odier (President, SSF), Gilbert Probst (President, SBI) and Marie-Noëlle Zen-Ruffinen (Board member, Baloise and Implenia) will also contribute to the event.

Purpose of the session

The objective is to equip board members with a practical framework enabling them to:

  • Assess the financial relevance of sustainability on the organisation

  • Understand if and how sustainability may affect competitive positioning and act as a lever for innovation

  • Understand how sustainability information is relevant for investors/lenders

  • Evaluate stakeholder expectations, e.g. regulators, customers and employees

  • Identify most material risks

The session is deliberately structured as an open exchange between peers.

Speakers

Markus Neuhaus

Board member, Baloise, Chairman of the Board, Galenica

Markus Neuhaus is a board member of Helvetia Baloise Holding AG and has long-standing experience in auditing and corporate governance. He previously served as CEO of PwC Switzerland and was a member of the global leadership team of PwC. During his career, Markus Neuhaus advised many leading Swiss and international companies on financial reporting, governance, and regulatory matters.

Monika Ribar

Chairwoman of the Board, SBB

Monika Ribar has extensive leadership experience in Swiss industry and logistics. She is Chairwoman of the Board of SBB and previously served as CEO and later Chairwoman of the logistics company Panalpina. Over the course of her career, she has held several senior management and board positions in Swiss companies and brings deep expertise in corporate leadership, governance, and international business.

Peter Voser

Chairman of the Board, ABB

Peter Voser is Chairman of the Board of ABB and has held numerous senior leadership positions in global industry. Prior to joining ABB, he served as CEO of Royal Dutch Shell and earlier held several executive roles within the company. Peter Voser also chaired the board of PSA International and has served on multiple international corporate boards, bringing broad experience in global energy, industry, and corporate governance.

Marie-Noelle Zen-Ruffinen

Board Member, Baloise and Implenia

Marie-Noëlle Zen-Ruffinen serves on the boards of Helvetia Baloise Group and Implenia and has extensive experience in corporate governance and law. A professor of sports law and corporate governance at the University of Neuchâtel, she has held numerous board and advisory roles across Swiss organizations. Marie-Noëlle Zen-Ruffinen brings expertise in governance, compliance, and legal frameworks to her board mandates.

Gilbert Probst

President, Swiss Board Institute

Gilbert Probst has built an international career in academia and corporate governance. He is President of the Foundation Swiss Board Institute and Professor Emeritus of Organizational Behavior and Management at the University of Geneva. Throughout his career, he has advised numerous multinational companies on governance, leadership, and organizational strategy. Gilbert Probst has also held board roles in several organizations and is widely recognized for his research and publications on knowledge management, governance, and strategic leadership.

Isabelle Amschwand

President, swissVR

Isabelle Amschwand is President of swissVR, the association dedicated to strengthening corporate governance and board professionalism in Switzerland. She has many years of experience in board advisory, governance, and executive search. Isabelle Amschwand works closely with boards and senior leaders on governance structures, board effectiveness, and succession planning, contributing to the development of professional board practices across Swiss companies.

Patrick Odier

President, Swiss Sustainable Finance

Patrick Odier is President of Swiss Sustainable Finance and has been active in the Swiss financial sector for several decades. He previously served as Senior Managing Partner at Lombard Odier, where he played a key role in developing the bank’s sustainable investment strategy. Patrick Odier has also held various positions in Swiss financial industry associations and has been a strong advocate for integrating sustainability into the financial system.

Sabine Döbeli

CEO, Swiss Sustainable Finance

Sabine Döbeli has worked in the field of sustainable finance for over 25 years in different roles. After establishing Swiss Sustainable Finance (SSF), she took over the role as CEO of SSF in 2014. Previously, she was Head of Corporate Sustainability Management at Vontobel where she was responsible for coordinating sustainability topics at group level and for preparing sustainable investment services. At Zürcher Kantonalbank she built up the sustainability research unit within the financial analysis department and was involved in the launch of various sustainable investment products.
